The feasibility study and master plan for KHGH was completed in February 2003 by
a French consultant (INGEROP). In December 2003 an Australian consultant (Australian
Hospital Design Group) was appointed to carry out the design of the hospital. The
final tender document was completed in July 2005.
KHGH will be 312 beds secondary general and teaching hospital. It will be located
to the north of Shaikh Isa Bin Salman causeway in Muharraq. The plot area is approximately
227,000 m2. 127,000 for the hospital and 100,000 for the medical college. The hospital
will be constructed over 4 floors and 3 main blocks. All specialties will be available
in the hospital which includes Obstetric & Gynecology, Neonatal, Pediatric, Intensive
Care Unit, Ophthalmology, ENT, Medical & Surgical units, Accident & Emergency, Physiotherapy,
Occupational Therapy and Out Patient Clinics.
The hospital will also have some facilities for the medical school, including a
200 seat lecture theatre.
The total built up area is 62,000 m2 at an estimated building cost of BD 25,000,000
and the estimated Furniture and Medical equipment is BD 15,000,000. A further BD
5,000,000 is allocated for consultation fees and project contingencies. The project
shall be completed by the second quarter of 2007.
