Registered practical nurse |
- A degree from a practical nursing program of at least 18 months based on studies
at an institute approved by the Licensure Office, after completion of high school

How to Apply

Here you can learn about the key steps of obtaining a new license for nurses and
midwives in Bahrain
Key steps
For Bahraini applicants:
- Apply for a position as a nurse/midwife in Bahrain and get a job offer
- Retrieve an application form (form 1) from your prospective employer or the NHRA
Licensure and Registration Office.
- Fill out the application form (form 1) using this
instruction sheet as a guide.
- Submit the completed application form to the NHRA by post or in person at the address
provided in the instruction sheet. Make sure you attach all required documents mentioned
in both the application form and the
instruction sheet.
- Receive an application number from the NHRA, either by phone, email or post once
the above documents have been received at the NHRA.
- Get pre-employment medical examination certificate from your Local Health Centre.
- Verify your professional degree from Ministry of Education (for applicants who obtained
their professional degree outside Bahrain), requesting them to send it directly
to the NHRA.
- Once the required verification forms have been received, directly and in sealed
envelopes, the Nursing and Midwifery Committee will review your file and make decision
regarding your application.
- Receive notification that your license has been approved or rejected from the NHRA
either by phone, email or post.
- If approved, go to the cashier at the Directorate of Finance at the Ministry of
Health and pay the license fee.
- Bring your receipt to the NHRA Licensure and Registration Office, where you can
pick up your license.
NOTE: YOUR LICENSE MUST BE RENEWED ANNUALLY
For Non Bahraini applicants:
- Apply for a position as a Nurse/Midwife in Bahrain and get a job offer.
- Retrieve an application package from your prospective employer or the NHRA Licensure
and Registration Office.
- Fill out the application form (form 1) using this
instruction sheet as a guide.
- Submit the completed application form only (form No 1) to the NHRA by mail or in
person at the address provided in the instruction sheet. Make sure you attach all
required documents mentioned in both the application form and the
instruction sheet.
- Receive an application number from the NHRA Licensure and Registration Office, either
by phone, email or post once the above documents have been received at the NHRA.
- Fill out Part 1 of the four verification forms with application number and name
(for applicants who obtained their professional degree outside Bahrain). Send one
to each licensing authority where you are or have ever been registered (form 4),
one to the school where you obtained your professional degree (form 3) and two to
your previous supervisors (form 2). Follow the
instruction sheet. Make sure to request each of them to send the form directly
to the NHRA.
- Once all verification forms have been received, directly and in sealed envelopes,
the Nursing and Midwifery Committee will review your file and make decision regarding
your application.
- Receive notification that your license has been approved or rejected from the NHRA
either by phone, email or post.
- If approved, obtain a work permit from your prospective employer, get pre-employment
medical examination certificate from AlRazi Health Centre and C.P.R. and submit
these documents to the NHRA Licensure and Registration Office.
- On receiving notification, go to the cashier at the Directorate of Finance at the
Ministry of Health and Pay the license fee.
- Bring your receipt to the NHRA Licensure and Registration Office, where you can
pick up your license.
NOTE: YOUR LICENSE MUST BE RENEWED ANNUALLY
- Renew License
Here you can learn about the key steps of renewing your nurse/midwifery license
in Bahrain.
Key steps
- Retrieve an application for renewal (form 6) from your employer or the NHRA Licensure
and Registration Office
- Fill out the application form including the list of accredited continuing nursing
education (CNE) that you have obtained during the license period
- Submit entire application together with reference letter from current or previous
employer to NHRA by post or in person at the address provided in the instruction
sheet.
- Wait for the nursing profession registrar to review your file and make a recommendation
regarding licensure
- Receive notification that your license renewal has been approved or rejected from
NHRA Licensure and Registration Office by phone, email or post.
- If approved, bring your old license and go to the cashier at the Directorate of
Finance at the Ministry of Health and pay for the renewal of license
- Bring your receipt together with your old license to the NHRA Licensure and Registration
Office where you can pick up your renewed license
