A leading medical professional urged full adherence to the precautionary and preventive measures to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) Emergency Medicine (EM) Consultant  Dr. Jehad bin Rajab stressed the importance of joint community action to support the National Taskforce for Combating COVID-19 and overcome the pandemic.

He highlighted national strenuous efforts to combat the pandemic and protect public health, which earned the Kingdom of Bahrain international praise and recognition.

“The current stage requires all members of society to continue to adhere resolutely to all the instructions and controls set by the national medical team”, he said, cautioning against laxity and complacency in implementing the necessary health instructions and guidelines.

He warned against gatherings which, he said, represent the main cause for transmitting infections, adding that some people are asymptomatic which increases the risks of contamination.

Dr. bin Rajab stressed the importance of protecting health and safety during the Ashoora season and restricting their rituals to live streaming under this year’s circumstances.

He urged people in charge of community centres to comply strictly with the mandatory and precautionary measures amid the current health crisis facing the world.

He stressed the need to reduce family visits which contribute to increasing cases, urging people to keep off gatherings, avoid going out unless necessary, observe social distancing, in addition to wearing masks, washing hands and disinfecting surfaces regularly. He urged the public to report any suspected cases on hotline 444.
