digital Fundus camera at the Diabetic Clinic At Salmaniya Medical Center

Under the patronage of HE Dr. AAbdul Hai Alawadhi , inauguration of the last stage Diabetic retinopathy screening program .This through installing a digital Fundus camera at the Diabetic Clinic At Salmaniya Medical Center, This Camera is Donated by Rotary Club Of Salmaniya with a the cost of 16,000 BD to the first Telemedical screening program for diabetic retinopathy which is the national committee for prevention of Blindness project in Collaboration with Department of ophthalmology at Salmaniya medical center. The first fully digitized clinic for Diabetic eye diseases screening in diabetic patients was introduced in Muharraq health center.This was first pilot unit in this project in Muharraq Region, It represent a collaborative effort between Ministry of Health NCPB and Lions club ,Inauguration of Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Program July 2003 . and now there is five digital cameras distributed in 5 regional health center in Bahrain Digital photography performed by technician at Muharraq health center this is electronically connected to the ophthalmology department at SMC. One ophthalmologist at a reference center at Salmaniya medical center diagnosed and graded these images after receiving them via the Internet , Patients was referred from the health centers to receive treatment at Ophthalmology department. Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Card which include Demographic data, Family physician Details, Diabetes History, Ophthalmological History, Fundus Examination. This project is the first of it is kind in the region and will add a high quality service to the management of Diabetic patients all over Bahrain Dr. Ebtisam Alalawi Consultant Ophthalmologist National Coordinator for prevention of Blindness Co chair National Committee for prevention of blindness
