One unit is mobile x-ray to be used in operation theater and wards for the in-patients . This new mobile unit has chargeable battery packs which enables smooth movements of the machine. Multiple X-ray procedures can be carried out with fully charged machine without plugging in the mains supply. These features will prove to be quite friendly and efficient for machine operators as well as patients. The second unit is TLD reader. In a track of continues development in SMC Radiology department had installed a new Thermoluminescence Dosimeter (TLD) reader (HARSHAW 6600 LITE). This reader has a unique integrated soft and hardware solutions to read 200 dosimeter cards in a same time that makes it as a unique dosimeter in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Likewise, it will be dedicated to serve both general and private sectors in the kingdom. Two staff had completed the 1st part of the training on the facilitation and operation of this reader, between 14th & 16th of April 2009 and the second part of the training is supposed to be continued next week using the same radiation dosimetry lab of the department. This service it is available only in MoH in the Kingdom of Bahrain since 1997.
