In response to the directives of the Government Executive Committee, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, the Ministry of Health is set to introduce a genetic testing unit at the Salmaniya Medical Complex.

In preparation for the launch, the Minister of Health, HE Faeqa Saeed AlSaleh, held a symposium bringing together experts in the fields of genomics and personalised medicine to develop an action plan that will facilitate the launch of the unit.

The symposium attracted over 60 regional and international specialists and reviewed a number of key topics, including Bahrain’s National Genome Strategy.

The symposium also reviewed Japan’s success in the field of genomics and personalised medicine, including Japan’s contribution to the Kingdom’s growing genome industry. Bahrain’s ongoing initiatives, in collaboration with international partners and approaches to introduce a biobank, were also introduced.

The establishment of the unit is in line with the Ministry of Health’s commitment to providing advanced health services, which includes the introduction of a biobank that will aid in preventing diseases.
