SCH President praises opening of WHO office

President of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH), Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Head of the National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus (Covid-19), stressed Bahrain’s achievements in fighting the pandemic and protecting the health and safety of citizens and residents. He affirmed that the accomplishments were brought about thanks to the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the national efforts led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
 
The SCH President was speaking as he received today, alongside Health Minister Faeqa bint Said Al Saleh, Director General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on the occasion of his visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain. The meeting was held at the National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus (Covid-19) at the Crown Prince Centre for Training and Medical Research at the Military Hospital.
 
The SCH President welcomed Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, stressing that the visit is within the framework of the kingdom’s keenness to boost cooperation with WHO and back the organisation’s international efforts to combat the coronavirus. He lauded the opening of the organisation’s regional office in the Kingdom of Bahrain, describing the move as an advanced step in promoting joint cooperation and coordination.
 
Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa presented a briefing on the latest developments regarding the coronavirus (Covid-19) and the precautionary measures taken in this regard. He stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain is one of the leading countries in forming a national taskforce to coordinate efforts to fight the pandemic. He expressed keenness on multiplying joint efforts, stressing the kingdom’s appreciation of the efforts exerted by WHO to promote collective response to the pandemic.
 
For his part, the WHO Director General commended the initiatives and procedures taken by the Kingdom of Bahrain to face the pandemic and provide vaccines for all free of charge to achieve the global concepts of embodying the right the health. He also praised the coordinated efforts he noticed during his visits to the isolation, therapeutic and vaccination centres as well as the Operation Room of the National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus.
 
The WHO Director General expressed thanks and appreciation to the SCH President and the Minister of Health for the gracious welcome, stressing the organisation’s keenness on continuous cooperation and coordination with the Kingdom of Bahrain.
