Minister of Health Receives the Acting Representative of the World Health Organization in Bahrain

Her Excellency Dr. Jaleela bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hasan, Minister of Health, received Dr. Asad Hafeez, Acting Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Kingdom of Bahrain and Head of the Country Office, in the presence of Dr. Lulwa Showaiter, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Maryam Al-Jalahma, Chief Executive Officer of Government Hospitals, and Dr. Ijlal Al-Alawi, Chief Executive Officer of Primary Healthcare Centers.

During the meeting, Her Excellency the Minister of Health emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen the strategic partnership between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the World Health Organization, contributing to highlighting the achievements, projects, and outcomes realized by Bahrain to sustainably enhance the health system and the concept of universal health coverage. She expressed her appreciation and gratitude for the continuous support provided by the World Health Organization, which has contributed to the implementation and success of numerous joint health projects and initiatives.

The Minister pointed out that work is ongoing to implement Bahrain’s initiatives adopted as part of the outcomes of the 33rd Arab Summit, chaired by His Majesty the King of Bahrain, may God protect him, and hosted by the Kingdom last May. The “Bahrain Declaration” presented initiatives addressing various issues, including humanitarian initiatives such as improving healthcare for those affected by conflicts and crises in the region, developing the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries in Arab countries, and ensuring the availability of medicines and treatments, in cooperation and coordination between the League of Arab States, the World Health Organization, and the Kingdom of Bahrain.

For his part, Dr. Asad Hafeez provided an overview of the upcoming 78th World Health Assembly, to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, under the theme “All for Health, Health for All.” He also highlighted the proposed “Pandemic Accord,” which aims to strengthen global cooperation in areas of pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response, and is scheduled to be presented during the 78th World Health Assembly.

The meeting also addressed discussions on shared priorities and visions regarding collaborative initiatives between the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization in Bahrain. Both sides reviewed their joint relations and explored ways to benefit from the organization’s expertise in combating diseases, intensifying cooperation in capacity building in the health sector, and activating various health plans and programs during the coming period.
