Minister of Health Participates in the G20 Health Summit (H20) in Geneva

Her Excellency Dr. Jaleela bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, participated in the G20 Health Summit (H20), held at the headquarters of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva. The summit was organized by the G20 and G7 Health and Development Partnership and brought together a wide range of stakeholders including G20 and G7 policymakers, government ministers, multilateral organizations, the global health community, the private sector, economists, investors, civil society, and academia. The aim was to assess current global health challenges and offer concrete recommendations to the G20 and G7 presidencies to help accelerate the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and beyond.

During the summit’s opening session, titled "Rebuilding Partnerships and Strengthening Trust in Global Health", Her Excellency emphasized that building trust in health systems requires inclusive partnerships grounded in solidarity and collaborative action. She highlighted Bahrain’s national model, which is based on integrated governance, strategic investment in health, and community-driven initiatives, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to resilient health systems that earn public trust.

In the session launching the report "Global Parliamentarians on Non-Communicable Diseases and Mental Health", the Minister addressed the impact of challenges related to non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health on achieving sustainable development goals. She stressed the need for effective institutional leadership, comprehensive governance, and multisectoral collaboration to enhance the capacity of health systems to address diverse challenges. Her Excellency underlined the importance of a holistic approach to ensure a well-coordinated and effective response to NCDs and mental health issues. She also highlighted Bahrain’s national efforts, including the Public Health Law, which fosters policy integration and strengthens accountability mechanisms, as well as the National Committee for Combating Non-Communicable Diseases that brings together government and community stakeholders to align the national health response with community needs.

Her Excellency also took part in a high-level panel discussion titled “Seizing Health Innovations Today: Investing for Immediate and Future Impact”, during which she presented Bahrain’s pioneering initiatives. These included the Investment Case for NCDs, launched in partnership with the WHO and UNDP, which demonstrated the cost-effectiveness of expanding early screening for chronic diseases. She also highlighted the launch of the National Genome Project, showcasing Bahrain’s focus on innovation in personalized medicine. Furthermore, she reviewed Bahrain’s experience in enhancing primary healthcare and expanding the use of digital health solutions.

In conclusion, Her Excellency underscored the importance of such conferences as platforms for exchanging experiences and best practices at multiple levels. She reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to continued regional and international collaboration to build more resilient and inclusive health systems.
