Her Excellency Dr. Jaleela bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, reaffirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s unwavering commitment to supporting global efforts in immunization and preventive healthcare. She highlighted the healthcare sector’s dedication to enhancing international partnerships aimed at protecting communities and future generations from infectious diseases. This comes in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, may God protect him, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God preserve him.
This statement was made during Her Excellency’s leadership of Bahrain’s delegation to the high-level global summit titled “Health and Prosperity through Immunization”, organized by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, in partnership with the European Commission and the Gates Foundation. The summit took place in the Belgian capital, Brussels, and was attended by several heads of state and government, health ministers, and representatives of international organizations and agencies.
On this occasion, the Minister emphasized that the summit serves as a global platform to reaffirm the importance of international solidarity in ensuring fair and equitable access to vaccines, considering immunization a cornerstone of health and sustainable development. She praised Bahrain’s immunization policy, which provides essential preventive services, including routine childhood vaccines free of charge for all citizens and residents, through an integrated network of primary healthcare centers, with support from the private sector to promote universal health coverage.
Her Excellency also commended Bahrain’s achievements in eliminating diseases such as polio, diphtheria, and neonatal tetanus. She highlighted the expansion of the National Immunization Program by introducing the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for school students, reflecting Bahrain’s dedication to maintaining a progressive and comprehensive preventive approach.
The Minister further noted Bahrain’s leadership in launching several health initiatives during its presidency of the 33rd Arab League Summit in 2024. Among these initiatives was the promotion of pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing in Arab countries, followed by the Arab Forum for the Pharmaceutical and Vaccine Industry held on 12 May 2025. This forum gathered decision-makers and international experts to advance Arab self-sufficiency and integration in vaccine production and strengthen supply chains.
Her Excellency also praised Gavi’s pivotal role over the past 25 years in protecting more than 1.1 billion children worldwide from vaccine-preventable diseases, stressing that these efforts have supported health systems and empowered communities globally.
On the sidelines of the summit, the Minister held several meetings with her counterparts and senior international health officials to explore avenues of cooperation and the exchange of expertise in preventive health and universal health coverage.
