The Ministry of Health Celebrates World Breastfeeding Week

08/08/2025

The Ministry of Health organized a celebration marking World Breastfeeding Week, with the participation of a number of official and community entities concerned with supporting women and families. The event comes as part of national efforts to continue raising awareness of the importance of breastfeeding and to create a healthy environment that supports mothers in adopting this vital health practice.

The Ministry of Health explained that these initiatives aim to enhance coordination and integration between government bodies and civil society organizations to ensure the provision of a comprehensive system that prioritizes family health, while emphasizing the importance of providing psychological and social support to mothers to enable them to continue breastfeeding.

As part of these efforts, the Ministry launched a number of specialized initiatives, including the organization of accredited training workshops targeting healthcare professionals, in addition to awareness campaigns directed at mothers. This reflects the Ministry’s keenness to enhance the quality of maternal and child healthcare services and to establish breastfeeding as a key pillar for community health.

The Kingdom of Bahrain has also adopted a set of supportive breastfeeding initiatives, most notably the promotion of the “Baby-Friendly Hospitals” initiative. In addition, the country has intensified monitoring of the marketing and promotion of breastmilk substitutes, enacted a maternity leave law, and encouraged the provision of dedicated breastfeeding rooms in workplaces — all of which contribute to achieving sustainable development goals and promoting healthy practices within the community, towards building a healthier and more sustainable society.
