04/08/2025
His Excellency Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, President of the Supreme Council of Health, affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, may God protect him, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him, to continue building an integrated health model based on quality, sustainability, and governance. This model is anchored in an ambitious vision and effective partnerships with international organizations — foremost among them the World Health Organization (WHO) — to ensure the provision of the highest quality healthcare services, keep pace with the latest medical treatments, safeguard the health and safety of all members of society, and enhance the development of the national health system’s infrastructure.
This came during His Excellency’s reception, in the presence of Her Excellency the Minister of Health and the Chief Executives of Bahrain’s health sectors along with other health officials, of Her Excellency Dr. Hanan Hassan Balkhy, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, on the occasion of her visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Her Excellency Dr. Jaleela bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, welcomed Dr. Balkhy, stressing that the visit reflects the commitment of both Bahrain and WHO to coordinate in various medical and health fields. She noted that the visit demonstrates the trust that international organizations — particularly WHO — place in Bahrain’s tangible health achievements and contributes to strengthening frameworks for joint cooperation in prevention, digital transformation, and achieving universal health coverage. She also praised the efforts of WHO and its country office in Bahrain in enhancing cooperation and coordination with the Kingdom.
In her remarks during the visit, Dr. Hanan Balkhy stated: “The achievements and advanced health practices we have witnessed in the Kingdom of Bahrain clearly reflect a commitment to achieving health for all through resilient systems and strategies founded on innovation and integration.” She emphasized WHO’s commitment to continuing its support for these efforts by enhancing technical cooperation, exchanging expertise, and providing effective responses to both urgent and long-term health challenges.
The visit also included a briefing on the work of the Bahrain Board for Medical Specialties and the Strategic Planning and Health Training Committee, where discussions focused on ways to enhance cooperation in medical education, training, and health planning. These efforts aim to support the development of national competencies and raise the quality of healthcare services in the Kingdom.
