Minister of Health participates in high-level meeting on Ebola outbreak developments and efforts to support regional health readiness

Her Excellency Dr. Jaleela bint Al-Sayyed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, participated in the virtual high-level meeting of African Heads of State and Government and international partners on the developments of the Ebola virus outbreak (Bundibugyo). The meeting was chaired by His Excellency President Évariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi and Chairperson of the African Union, and organized by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC). It saw the participation of a number of Heads of State and Government, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), alongside representatives of international institutions, humanitarian organizations, and international partners, to discuss coordinating joint efforts to contain the outbreak and enhance preparedness and prevention levels.

In her speech during the meeting, Her Excellency the Minister of Health emphasized that the Kingdom of Bahrain’s participation in this high-level health meeting stems from the Kingdom's keenness to strengthen continuous international cooperation in facing cross-border health challenges. She pointed out the importance of unifying various efforts to support the joint response plan and regional readiness led by the Africa CDC in cooperation with the WHO.

Her Excellency indicated that the challenges associated with the Ebola outbreak require a coordinated and rapid international response based on supporting surveillance, early detection, epidemiological investigation, and building the capacity of medical facilities, as well as enhancing local communities' trust in healthcare protocols and ensuring the continuity of medical supply chains.

Furthermore, the meeting reviewed a detailed report on the developments of the epidemiological situation and outbreak indicators, and discussed the key operational and field challenges facing response teams in affected areas. It concluded its work by adopting a joint final statement that includes the necessary pledges and commitments to support joint efforts, ensuring containment of the epidemic and protection of the global health system.
