Ministry of Health Chairs the Executive Board Meeting of the Gulf Health Council in Riyadh

Members of the Executive Board of the Gulf Health Council for the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Dr. Lulwa Rashid Shuwaiter, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, and Dr. Samia Ali Bahram, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health, participated in the Board’s 103rd meeting, held at the headquarters of the Gulf Health Council in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The meeting addressed a number of initiatives and resolutions aimed at developing health services and strengthening medicine security across the GCC countries.
At the opening of the meeting, Dr. Lulwa Shuwaiter, Executive Board Member and Chair of the current session, affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s support for joint Gulf efforts to advance the health sector and strengthen integration among GCC countries in addressing health challenges, contributing to greater efficiency of health systems and improved quality of healthcare services. She also emphasized the importance of the GCC Unified Procurement Program in enhancing spending efficiency, strengthening medicine security, and ensuring the sustainable availability of medicines and medical supplies.
The meeting reviewed the Council’s performance report for the first half of 2026 and the budgets of the Gulf Health Council and the Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control for 2027. It also discussed a number of projects, most notably the establishment of a Strategic Stockpile Committee, the approval of unified procurement tenders, enhanced cooperation in centralized pharmaceutical registration, the adoption of the GCC Guide for Standardizing Export Prices of Pharmaceutical Products, and the updated internal regulations of the Council.
The meeting also witnessed the launch of several qualitative programs and projects, including the “Taawun 2.0” system, the Knowledge Platform, and the launch of specialized studies by the Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
