Ministry of Health Launches the “Genomics Ambassadors” Programme as Part of the 2030 Youth City Activities

The Ministry of Health has announced the launch of the “Genomics Ambassadors” training programme, delivered by the National Genome Centre as part of the programmes offered by the Science and Technology Centre during the 14th edition of “Youth City 2030”. The event is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs in cooperation with strategic partner Tamkeen, as part of efforts to raise awareness among young people about genomics and enhance their knowledge of emerging healthcare fields. The programme also contributes to developing qualified national talent and supporting the advancement of the healthcare sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
On this occasion, Dr. Lulwa Rashid Showaiter, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, emphasized that the programme aims to enhance community awareness among young people of human genomics and its importance in shaping the future of healthcare. This will be achieved through a comprehensive and interactive training programme featuring a range of scientific topics and practical activities.
She explained that the programme covers an introduction to the National Genome Project, the fundamentals of genetics, applications of artificial intelligence in genomic medicine, and the latest developments in clinical genomics and gene therapy. It also introduces participants to the concepts of precision medicine and pharmacogenomics, and their role in advancing personalized healthcare in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The Undersecretary of Health noted that the programme forms part of efforts to prepare an informed and qualified generation with foundational knowledge in genomics. This will contribute to promoting genomic literacy within the community, equipping participants to raise awareness of genomics concepts and applications, and supporting the Kingdom of Bahrain’s vision of building a knowledge-based economy driven by innovation and advanced health sciences.
Dr. Lulwa further affirmed that the participation of the National Genome Centre in “Youth City 2030” reflects national efforts to raise health awareness, develop young people’s skills, and enhance their readiness for future opportunities in the healthcare and technology sectors. She commended the role of the Ministry of Youth Affairs in organizing the event and highlighted the ongoing cooperation among government entities in implementing programmes and initiatives aimed at investing in and developing national talent.
During the meeting, the President of the Supreme Council of Health welcomed the Kuwaiti Minister of Health and highlighted the deep-rooted fraternal ties between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the sisterly State of Kuwait. He noted the continued growth and development of bilateral relations across various sectors, particularly in healthcare, under the leadership and guidance of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and his brother His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait, with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, and His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait. Their leadership continues to strengthen cooperation and coordination in pursuit of shared aspirations and common goals.
The meeting reviewed opportunities to further enhance cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Kuwait across various healthcare fields. Discussions focused on advancing the bilateral partnership to support the continued development of healthcare services, strengthen the capabilities of national healthcare professionals, and expand the exchange of expertise and successful experiences between the two countries.
H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa emphasized the importance of building on the fruitful cooperation already established between the two sisterly countries, praising Kuwait’s distinguished expertise and experience in the healthcare sector, which can contribute to the ongoing development of Bahrain’s healthcare system while promoting greater regional integration and coordination for the mutual benefit of both nations.
