To the United Nations: Health Minister: Bahrain Continues to Develop an Advanced National System for Health Emergency Preparedness and Response

Her Excellency Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayyed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to continuing to strengthen multilateral cooperation and international solidarity in the areas of pandemic prevention and public health emergency preparedness and response, contributing to protecting the health of populations and enhancing global health security.
Her Excellency made the statement during the High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response, held as part of the proceedings of the eighty-first session of the United Nations General Assembly at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, under the theme: “Strengthening Multilateral and Whole-of-Society Approaches to Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response, Based on the Principles of Equity and Solidarity.”
Her Excellency noted that pandemics and health emergencies have demonstrated that health risks know no borders, making the strengthening of preparedness a shared responsibility that requires international commitment and multilateral cooperation based on coordination, solidarity, and the exchange of knowledge and expertise. She emphasized the importance of investing in resilient and proactive health systems capable of anticipating risks, detecting them early, and responding to them effectively.
Her Excellency explained that the Kingdom of Bahrain has benefited from the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that the national approach, based on integrated roles, effective coordination, rapid decision-making, and the concerted efforts of the public and private sectors, national health professionals, and various segments of society, contributed to enhancing the effectiveness of the response and highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing health emergencies.
Her Excellency affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain continues to strengthen its preparedness to address future health risks through risk assessment, updating emergency preparedness and response plans, supporting research and development, and building the capacities of the health workforce, in addition to adopting the “One Health” approach, thereby enhancing the ability to address emerging and evolving health risks.
At the international level, Her Excellency the Minister of Health expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s aspiration to contribute to joint international efforts to strengthen the capacity of health systems to prevent, prepare for, and respond to pandemics and public health emergencies, in a manner that is consistent with the cultural and societal contexts of countries, as well as their national laws and regulations, and contributes to protecting the health of populations and enhancing global health security.
