The Public Health Directorate at the Ministry of Health, in coordination with the Maternal and Child Health Services Section at Primary Health Care Centres, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Advancing Maternal Vaccination: From Evidence to Practice.”

The workshop aimed to enhance healthcare professionals’ awareness and keep them informed of the latest scientific developments and recommendations in maternal vaccination. This contributes to improving the efficiency of healthcare practices, expanding vaccination coverage among target groups, particularly pregnant women, maintaining high levels of community immunity, and protecting the health of mothers and infants.

The scientific programme included a number of specialized lectures and sessions. Dr. Basma Al Saffar opened the programme with a lecture entitled “Maternal Vaccination: Protecting Mothers and Infants,” followed by a lecture delivered by Dr. Hisham Al Akri, Consultant in Paediatrics and Respiratory Medicine at Salmaniya Medical Complex, entitled “Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in Infants: Understanding the Disease Burden.”

Dr. Rawan Al Agha, Consultant in Infectious Diseases, then delivered a scientific session entitled “Maternal RSV Vaccination: Evidence for Protecting Infants.” The programme concluded with a lecture by Dr. Mona Al Mahri entitled “From Evidence to Practice: Counselling on Maternal Vaccination,” highlighting the importance of providing mothers with appropriate health guidance and counselling on vaccination.
