Disease Type Infectious Diseases
Description

HIV is a virus that attacks the immune system cells responsible for defending the body against different types of infections and certain types of cancer. Therefore the body loses its ability to resist infectious germs and cancers, and this is called HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) or a shortcut to a ( HIV )
(AIDS), the late stage of HIV infection. AIDS may take up to 8-10 years after HIV infection, and people living with HIV can live for years without symptoms;

Causes

Viruses are transmitted mainly through semen and vaginal fluids during sexual intercourse without the use of condoms. In addition to intercourse, the infection can be transmitted through involvement of injections of contaminated needles with infected blood; through transfusion of the infected blood or its derivatives, and transmission from the infected mother to her child immediately before, during and after birth.

Symptoms

The symptoms of HIV infection vary in the early stage. Although people who have been living with the virus tend to have been infected over the past few months, many of them only know their condition at a later stage.
When the immune system is affected, symptoms and signs may appear such as lymph nodes enlargement , weight loss, fever, diarrhea and cough. Without receiving treatment, serious illnesses appear in people such as tuberculosis, meningitis, cancers, and others.

Treatments

There are a number of drugs used to treat infections associated with AIDS. These drugs are also working to prevent the multiplication of the virus, but they do not cure AIDS or AIDS infection. These drugs delay the onset of symptoms of AIDS and death.

Prevention

- Avoid unsafe sex and it is also important to avoid homosexuality
